Composition
Introduction
I have not selected a topic for my magazine story so I decided to practice photography with my roommate. I had her pose in a few different positions while I shot her from different angles. I tried to encorporate different composition techniques.
For this first shot, I used the "Work the Shot" reading to take this picture. I adjusted several times before finally deciding on an angle to use. This still was not the best angle because the table and decorations in the corner are seen. I took this shot standing on our coffee table in landscape mode.
This shot was a continuation of the first shoot and is one of my personal favorites. I decided to play with the angles in which I took the picture. I took this picture again from above (standing on our coffee table) and used portrait mode. The only improvements that could be made to this shot would be centering her a tad bit more.
For this last shot, I decided on a compeltly different pose. I chose to shoot her from above again to get a unique angel. I worked with the negative space of the blank wall behind her. I used this technique to (hopefully) lead the viewer's to the subject of my photo. If I were to really use this image for my spread, I would have been more careful of the shadows in the background.
Conclusion
This blog post made me very aware of new techniques for shooting photos and how to take an average image and make it interesting. I also became more aware of how important distractions are in the background of a photo and how easily they can distract from your focus.
