Swatchy Schemes

Image
Introduction For this blog post, we had to choose a photo with colors that inspired us to create a color swatch. I chose this picture I took while in Emerald Isle because the colors were so vibrant and contrasting already. I thought that the image was unique, it was not a stereotypical sunset or flower picture, but still had enough different colors to be inspiring. Process I selected the hot pink color of the "Albert's" sign, the deepest blue of the sky, and the cream color of the building. I thought these colors would look great in a swatch together. I used one of the Indesign videos to remind myself how to properly format the swatch (and to use CMYK format).   Conclusion Working with swatches in InDesign made me more conscious of the pictures I'll take for my photo story. Although I thought that my picture was great and vibrant, when I took the colors out of the picture, they looked boring beside each other. This helped me see what kind of picture...

Composition

Image
Introduction I have not selected a topic for my magazine story so I decided to practice photography with my roommate. I had her pose in a few different positions while I shot her from different angles. I tried to encorporate different composition techniques. For this first shot, I used the "Work the Shot" reading to take this picture. I adjusted several times before finally deciding on an angle to use. This still was not the best angle because the table and decorations in the corner are seen. I took this shot standing on our coffee table in landscape mode.  This shot was a continuation of the first shoot and is one of my personal favorites. I decided to play with the angles in which I took the picture. I took this picture again from above (standing on our coffee table) and used portrait mode. The only improvements that could be made to this shot would be centering her a tad bit more. For this last shot, I decided on a compeltly different pose. I c...

Pretty Little Liars

Introduction To begin, I chose one of my favorite shows that is very recognizable (even to those who don't watch the show). I contemplated recreating other posters such as "Riverdale", "Mean Girls", "Bring it On", and "Get Out", but this was my favorite.     Background Process To begin, I started my created the background. I found an image similar to the background wall and flooring and added them to the document. I created a mask to show the wall and floor as if they are one, and not having any overlap. I created another mask to make a vignette-ish filter. Before & After - Lazy Eye Fix I used the quick selection tool to select her eye that I wanted to copy. I then copied her eye and placed it over the lazy one. I lined it up with her eye and used the eraser tool to clean up the harsh lines around the edited eye. Hair Edits I also had to fill in some of the gaps of their hair to avoid the original backgr...

Me(me) is not Impressed

↠↠↠ Introduction For the meme project, I chose to recreate a famous screengrab of Kris Jenner coaching Kim Kardashian through a photoshoot. Kris is posing while watching Kim and tells her "Kim, you're doing great sweetie". This past weekend my friend and I attended the Alpha Chi Omega formal and during pictures I caught her face between shots. I thought this picture was the perfect awkward face and seemed very humorous.  ↠↠↠ Process First, I opened both images in Adobe Photoshop. I decided that I wanted to place the Kris Jenner image on top of the picture of my friend. So I used the quick selection tool to outline her body. I decreased the brush size to get the details of her lashes and jewelry. I copied Kris Jenner into my image and then turned her into a SmartImage. On this screen, I brightened the image and increased the contrast to make Kris Jenner look more like she was in the same setting as my friend. I adjusted the levels of the photo to m...

ROSY FILTER ↠↠↠ Brightness -10 Contrast +50 Photo Filter Pink 70% (preserve luminosity) Saturation +5 Lightness +20 ↠↠↠                                            BEFORE                                                AFTER ↠↠↠ For this post, I tried to mimic the editing effects that you would use in a photo editor such as VSCO. First, I played with the brightness and contrast to make sure that the colors within the photo were vivid. I turned the brightness down slightly so that when I would later lighten the picture I could still have contrast. Next, I added a photo filter in a rosy pink color. I then added a little more saturation to the photos, and turned the lightness up. I went for a more artsy/cute filter rather than so...

Introduction

Hi, I'm Jordyn Whitted! I am currently a sophomore here at HPU. I am majoring in strategic communications and minoring in marketing. I want to use this to go into advertising and develop and distribute advertisments for large companies. My dream job would be to work on a marketing team at Google. A large part of my life is music. I have been playing an instrument since I was in the sixth grade. I currently am a member of two ensembles on campus; Symphonic band and Pep band. My main instrument is the saxophone, but I also can play clarinet and some piano. Not only do I love instrumental music, but vocal music as well. Ariana Grande, Ella Mai, and Cardi B are some of my favorites. Something odd about me would be my fear of boats. I hate boats of all sizes and do not want to ever have to be on one. There's just something about the ocean being so mysterious and huge that really bothers me.
